Mareike Schmidt is a Research and Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of
Law, University of Basel, Switzerland. Her main areas of interest and
research are comparative law, private international law, international
commercial arbitration and the law of obligations. Besides being a
native German speaker and fluent in English, she has good knowledge of
French, Mandarin and Spanish.
Mareike studied
law at the University of Würzburg, Humboldt-University of Berlin and
Tsinghua University in Beijing. She worked at the Chair of Prof. Dr.
Oliver Remien in Würzburg, the Institute of the Legal Profession in Berlin and the law firm of von Langsdorff, Schlegel und Weidenbach. Since 2005 she has coached teams for the Willem C. Vis International
Commercial Arbitration Moot for Humboldt-University, Tsinghua
University and Basel University.
Mareike started working at the Chair of Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Schwenzer in
October 2008 and is currently in charge of coordinating the 3rd Edition of the Schlechtriem/Schwenzer Commentary on the CISG
